Raanan Katz moved to the United States in the hopes of becoming an NBA basketball player. He was an impressive three point shooter on the Israeli national team and moved to the United States in 1962 to try out for the Boston Celtics. He was one of the last players cut from the team, so his dreams of becoming an NBA player quickly switched to his other passion, real estate. He quickly realized the benefit of preserving and maintaining his apartment so that he could sell it at a higher price in the future. Over the next 15 years, Raanan was able to purchase over 2,000 apartments in Boston and began his own real estate development company, RK Associates. In 1979, he moved to Miami, Florida and started to purchase commercial properties. His company was eventually re-branded as RK Centers.
